Paul’s Net Worth – June 2012 – $267,264
The results after an ugly May:
- The stock market took its toll this month. My investments are down a whopping $10k! I’ll try to keep telling myself that stocks are cheap now after the most recent sell-off, so when my automatic investments go through I should be getting some bargains.
- This is the first month that Zillow has messed with my net worth in any significant way. This seems to happen to Don quite a bit, but I always felt like he was whining more than anything. Now I’m the one who is whining. Maybe we should start tracking our home values at cost? Or take Zillow updates less frequently, like yearly or semi-yearly? Also notice that the NADA is messing with my car values as well.
- Cash is down this month, but that matches up with a significant reduction in credit card debt. A large chunk of that debt was paid using money in targeted savings, so I view that as a positive. Overall, the emergency fund is up again this month, even though total cash is down. This is a good thing. We are nearly recovered from the down payment for our ‘surprise’ car purchase a few months back. Hopefully we will have the emergency fund back to where it needs to be in the next month or two. Then we can get back to accumulating a down payment for our next home.
- I mentioned in last months update that I was hoping for a stock market drop so I could find some value stocks to invest in. Well, the cash just isn’t there for me to be doing this, so I guess I’ll have to wait for the next drop in stock prices. Oh well, the wheel turns….
